Who Loves Ya (Coup D'etat) (3:44)
Twice Shy (1:48)
Ain't There No One? (2:17)
Review: Bringing bruising good time Oi-punk to the new generation, Chubby & The Gang have made quick work over the course of their two exceptional full-lengths. Now, less than a year removed from the life affirming scrappy anthems of 'The Mutt's Nuts', the gang (no pun intended) return with a literal 'Labour Of Love.' The single features three new cuts, all love songs, delivered with the manic, crusty, anthemic beauty one could ever desire from new school hardcore-by-way-of-Oi! punk revivalists.

Living Las Vegas (2:33)
Counting Back From 13 (2:55)
Review: Following on from last year's critically acclaimed debut LP This Is Crime Wave, Codefendants return with a brand new 10" single complete with two utter bangers. The culmination of an effort by Get Dead vocalist Sam King, who by offering tattoos and selling flash art with his graffiti crew in order to raise funds to help rapper Ceschi Ramos with his incarceration; later when the pair would meet, they bonded over a bottle of whiskey and their shared passion for the Venn Diagram intersections of the realms of punk and hip-hop. With the addition of punk legend and NOFX main-man Fat Mike, an incomparable trio was born. Flagging their genre as "Crime Wave" (hence the album title), the tripod of MC's and punks deliver a dizzying concoction of new wave, hip-hop, flamenco, hardcore and sunshine pop, while the titular 'Living Las Vegas' from this new 10" features west coast rap legend 2Mex.

Review: Following on from last year's crushing debut full-length, 'The Codex Of Flesh', Colorado Springs deathcore new schoolers, Crown Magnetar, return with the visceral 'Alone In Death' EP. Combining all facets of the genre from the brutally heavy to the obscenely technical, their myriad cacophony careens with zero warning into obliterating blast beats, mammoth breakdowns and caustic, malevolent shrieks. For a subgenre once so maligned and snobbed, it's releases like this that serve as testament to the vitality and staying power of such a twisted hybrid.

Review: Ever consistent Canadian hardcore punk crew, Cancer Bats, are seemingly set to return with their follow up to 2018's 'The Spark That Moves', which marks their first offering following the departure of founding guitarist Scott Middleton.

With the frenetic thrashings of latest single, 'Lonely Bong', the group haven't sounded this vitriolic or pissed off in the better part of a decade.

From the thunderous title-track alone, it's evident 'Psychic Jailbreak' marks a smouldering return to form with low end grooves and Southern snarl imbued within its hardcore bindings. Cancer Bats have always sounded their best when resembling Every Time I Die getting into a beer-soaked bar brawl with Down, and this could be the fight that leads to a hospital visit.

Review: It's not often a band can invoke claustrophobia and agoraphobia in a single album. Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes have been building their reputation on a punk rock-desert guitar hybrid over the course of four albums, and on LP number five, Dark Rainbow, the juxtaposition has rarely been clearer. Some tracks seem wonderfully lost in the wilderness, while others are in the throes of a sweat-soaked basement gig. The contrast between opener 'Honey', with its high energy raucousness, and the more patient and emotionally vulnerable 'Man of the Hour', track two, is enough to show what we mean, although there are starker reminders of this quieter, aching side. 'Sun Bright Golden Happening', for instance, is a soft piano stunner, 'Can I Take You Home' feels so delicate you could almost break it without realising.

Review: The always superb Sounds Of The City comes through here with some freshness and newness here via their newly minted 'Sounds Of The City, Dark' series. It finds the French outfit Catalogue debuting on the label with a sound that brings a different perspective to the new post-punk movement. Their sound is a mixing pot of an array of different influences and what you get is music that will get you nodding to the grooves while your mind gets lost exploring synthetic elements, angular guitar riffs, robotic rhythms and lovely deep bass.

Review: Philadelphia DIY ska-punks Catbite may cite the likes of The Specials, The Selectors, and Elvis Costello over more partisan, Americanised influences such as Less Than Jake or Reel Big Fish, but that's possibly due to their punk pulse thumping subtly under rocksteady nuances.

Last August's sophomore blast and aptly titled, 'Nice One' served as a perfect summer wind-down with the reserved, chilled grooves of 'Bad Influence' rolling along after the bop-punk of 'Call Your Bluff' and 'Excuse Me Miss'. Now, after the slight vinyl delay pinch practically all artists have been experiencing, these summertime vibes are just about ready to be dusted off yet again.

Review: The debut full-length (not counting the Beyond Hypothermia compilation that came beforehand) from seminal Massachusetts metalcore/emo/post-rock/alternative giants Cave In, still stands as a monumental work that has maintained its position within the Venn Diagram intersection of a myriad of altering sonics two decades on. Tragically losing bassist/vocalist Caleb Scofield in a car accident in 2018, the band made a much-supported return with last year's phenomenal Heavy Pendulum while enlisting the help of Converge bassist Nate Newton. As the newly reformed group continue to tour the latest opus-like addition to their incomparable legacy, there's a bittersweet aura surrounding the 20 year anniversary of Until Your Heart Stops; both celebrating their enigmatic genre-fluid origins that have been an essential component of why Cave In are still paid such reverence, and a sobering reminder of the loss of such a truly underappreciated artistic voice.

Review: Once hailed by Pitchfork as "the noisiest pop music on the planet", Texan group Cherubs, with Immaculada High, continue their second wave after returning from a two-decade hiatus in 2014. It sees the three piece land on American metal and experimental label Relapse Records - think Mastodon and The Dillinger Escape Plan - with an album that brings a fresh, even a previously thought-lost '90s ethic back to alternative, distorted and noisy metal. This record is no final farewell type gig, with the essence and rawness of tracks like "Sooey Pig" and "Full Regalia" in all its anti-Americana charm shining through as something new. With the Texas-sized, psychedelic racket of Cherubs recorded and engineered by Erik Wofford (Explosions In The Sky, The Black Angels) an undeniable trippy element to the band's punk ethos wilfully resonates throughout, most distinctly in Kevin Whitley's LSD-laced vocals that add a warm colour to a wonderfully muddy mix of lo-fi, distorted post-rock. Get dirty.

Review: Here comes a reissue of Cherubs's 2 Ynfynyty album on a rather impressive and unique jawbreaker vinyl. It is one of a bunch of reissues of this metal band's best work including special 30th anniversary editions of their Icing album. This one has not been on vinyl since its original release back in 2015 and at the time it was the cult band's first new music in 20 years. It was an immediate hit with older fans as the cult noise rock kings headed into new territory but not without foregoing plenty of the hallmarks of their definitive early sounds.

Review: Leading the modern Oi-punk resurgence, London based bruisers The Chisel made the most violent, pummelling yet endearingly charming impression they could with 2021's debut album Retaliation. Born as a side-project from members of both Chubby & The Gang and Arms Race, the hype and momentum garnered by this initial effort, and brimming around the imminent release of their much anticipated sophomore LP, What A Fucking Nightmare, appears set to catapult the authentic louts further into the punkosphere and onto minimal-security stages the world over. Comprised of 16 curbstomping bangers, drawing on the nastiest/catchiest aspects of oi, hardcore, pub-rock and UK82 street punk, this is venomous Fred Perry-sporting, skinhead roguishness without...you know...any of the other stuff.

Review: The US took to The Clash much more than their main rivals the Sex Pistols, not least because the latter were already imploding by the time they reached its shores. Strummer and co's regular visits to New York were always a media event - Martin Scorcese even invited them to make cameo appearanmces in his 'King of Comedy' film on one - and always accompanied by incendiary live shows. This one, recorded for radio at The Palladium in September 79, is from the relatively early part of their career, harder rocking than some although there is a reggae cover in the shape of 'Police and Thieves' even here, while mainly it's hard hitting guitar slinging anthems like 'I Fought The Law' and 'London Calling'.

Review: Like owning a little piece of history with a bonus memoir, The Clash's Combat Rock was - is - the band's best selling album of all time and highest charting in both the US and UK. This was also the last time Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon would record together before the lineup changed, and the track list contains at least two of the outfit's most recognised songs - namely 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' and 'Rock the Casbah'.

The original version of the LP was less expansive than this special edition released to mark 40 years since the long-player went on sale. The addition of The People's Hall offers fans a chance to relish in no less than 12 extra tracks, including collaborations with the legendary Ranking Roger - 'Rock the Casbah' and 'Red Angel Dragnet' - the iconic late-frontman of The Beat more than ideally suited to the crew's sound.

Review: Album number five from legendary British post-punk and New Wavers The Clash was first unveiled on 14th May 1982. 40 years on it finds itself the centre of attention once more, re-released both in this original version and an extended edition with bonus record The People's Hall. Sticking to this outing, fans will likely already know that the record as it was first intended remains the band's most successful of all time, outselling all that came before or after and charting higher than any other in the US and UK alike.

Respectively hitting number seven and number two in the charts of the day, and spending 23 weeks in the top 40 albums in Britain and a mammoth 61 weeks in the LP league tables Stateside, today it's a double-platinum testament to just how potent the combination of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon and Topper Headon was. The last record to feature that iteration of the outfit, tracks like 'Rock the Casbah' and 'Should I Stay Or Should I Go' remain utterly timeless.

Review: On September 21 1979 The Clash took to the stage of The Palladium in New York City and performed one of the most significant gigs of their lives. At that point they'd released their self-titled debut and Give 'Em Enough Rope, and their position as vital progenitors of the British punk explosion was assured on an international level. This particular performance was broadcast on the radio and subsequently became one of the most widely bootlegged of all Clash gigs, but it attained an even more legendary status as the gig where Paul Simonon smashed his bass into the floor, captured on camera and subsequently used as the iconic cover for London Calling.

Review: When The Clash rolled into Passaic, New Jersey in March 1980, they were fully hitting their stride. They'd released their instant classic London Calling in December the year before and cracked the US top 30, so they hit Stateside with some swing in their stride, and it shows on this fantastic document of one of the breakthrough US gigs. Of course the classics spill out of this collection, from 'London Calling' and 'Guns Of Brixton' to 'I Fought The Law' and their cover of Junior Murvin's 'Police & Thieves', all delivered by a band firing on all cylinders.

Review: In December 1980, The Clash released the sprawling 36-song Sandinista! album, which marked their transition from rabble rousing guitar slingers to the genre-splitting musical experimentalists that inhabited the second part of their career. This high quality recording catches them in mid change, still including the pogo-friendly likes of 'London Calling' - the opening tune here - but also an echo chamber-drenched version of reggae-inspired original 'Bankrobber' and their hip-hop anthem 'The Magnificent Seven'.

Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged but otherwise in excellent condition***

On September 21 1979 The Clash took to the stage of The Palladium in New York City and performed one of the most significant gigs of their lives.

Review: Melbourne based hardcore heroes Clowns return with their much anticipated follow up to 2019's Nature/Nurture. The fifth LP from the unhinged group sees a conscious eschewing of outside perception as it champions topics ranging from sexual exploration to morality, through a collection of blistering, frenetic, but of above all else, fun bangers designed to entertain, provoke and incite flailing bodies and stage dives en masse. Endless offers a slice of bouncing hardcore punk for those who feel it's still going to be alright, as long as you dance and mosh those bad vibes away.

Review: Following their succinctly titled 2019 debut full-length Cunts, the Los Angeles based hardcore mob of the same name (sans the one vowel), would only briefly tour the project before the 2020 pandemic put a stop to all live shows. During this time, vocalist Matt Cronk suffered from a paralyzed vocal cord as result of a surgical error following a car crash injury. With other members Kevin Avery and guitarist Mike Crain keeping busy in Retox while the latter also serves as bass-man for Mike Patton-fronted Dead Cross, Cronk recovered against any medical predictions and between his personal strife and the state of utter division across the US, he has a whole load of hate to get off his chest on their cynical sophomore statement, Thoughts & Prayers.

Review: Los Angeles crusted hardcore bruisers CNTS delivered a venomous statement of intent with their beautifully titled 2019 debut full-length Cunts, but sadly only had a brief opportunity to tour in support of the project before the world closed its doors in early 2020. Unfortunately, any and all future plans would be put on hold following vocalist Matt Cronk being injured in a car crash which resulted in a surgical error leading to a paralyzed vocal cord. Though members turned to other projects whilst awaiting/praying for Cronk's recovery (both drummer Kevin Avery and guitarist Mike Crain are members of Retox with the latter also being part of the Mike Patton-fronted Dead Cross), it wouldn't be until the winter of last year that, against all doctor's predictions, Cronk's voice would return and with it, a bevvy of new gripes and grievances to expel. Sardonically titled Thoughts & Prayers, and receiving distribution through the aforementioned Mike Patton's Ipecac label, prepare for an even more depraved batch of jagged, fuzzed-out, cynical and severely pissed off hardcore headcavers.

Review: Codefendants was born out of Get Dead vocalist Sam King's graffiti crew offering tattoos and making flash art to raise money to help Ceschi Ramos whilst the rapper was incarcerated. They would eventually meet at the Gilman Street Project in Berkeley, California, and bond over a bottle of Jameson and a shared love of all things hip-hop and punk oriented. Add Fat Mike of NOFX to the mix, and you have Codefendants. The title of their debut album This Is Crime Wave comes from their self-classified genre of 'Crime Wave', but to be more specific, imagine elements of hip-hop, new wave, flamenco, and a hearty dose of the Beatles, conjured by a trio of punks and MCs.

Review: The Copyrights are a pop punk band from Illinois who have been working steadfast on their ear-catching sound since 2003. After so many years hopping from label to label (but often orbiting Chicago's Red Scare), they're landing on the mighty Fat Wreck Chords with one of their biggest albums to date. If you know Fat Mike's label then you know what you're in for here - insanely catchy blasts of radio-friendly punk rock - but The Copyrights have been doing this long enough to know how to give their music an edge. There's a certain gnarliness in the riffs, a snarl around the edge of those big choruses, which shows they're not making throwaway chart fodder here. This is pop punk for the true lifers, and one of the band's finest achievements to date.

Review: If you need an introduction to the anarcho-punk legends, Crass, perhaps you've strayed too far off the beaten path. If you're a genuine crass-er, crass-ite(?), then this *ahem* unofficial (but legacy standard) collection of early demos ranging from 1977-1979, is a vital component to your collection. Even the most visionary punk auteurs, capable of pissing off and captivating legions in equal stead, had to begin somewhere, and work meticulously on their chaotic craft before accosting the unsuspecting masses. This is the rare chance to take that process home with you, and absorb it all in true fly-on-the-wall abject voyeurism.

Review: Not long after Tony Wakeford formed the ensemble group 1.9.8.4., the decision was made to rename the project as Crisis and dust off the bevvy of anarcho-punk 'music to march to' that had originally made the band such an integral force in the late 70s/early 80s era of anti-fascist left wing punk. Live In London 2017 is taken from this subsequent reunion tour which took place in Camden's Dublin Castle on the 15th October 2017, and offers a fly-on-the-wall earful of the seasoned veterans rediscovering the staying power of their earlier material and confirming how (unfortunately) relevant cuts such as 'White Youth' and 'In The UK' are, all these decades on.

Review: After their first round was such a success, Gary Crowley and Jim Lahat have been tasked with pulling together another essential collection of punk and new wave from the 70s and 80s, and you can rest assured they've done it again. There are some major, familiar names here like The Clash, The Slits and Ramones, but there's also a hell of a lot of rare delights from the likes of The Limit, The Art Attacks and The Newtown Neurotics. Musically, there's plenty of range too from spiky three-chord pub rock and punk through to Linton Kewsi Johnson and Dennis Bovell's crossover dub as Poet & The Roots. That's just a tiny overview of this mammoth six-disc set, which takes you deep into the heart of a vital, thrilling period in alternative music.

Review: Where do we start here? The band is called GBH, otherwise known as Charged GBH, the label Puke & Vomit, and the album City Baby Attacked By Rats. Suffice to say, if you're after blissful ambient or contemporary classical best jog on and look elsewhere, because, friend, this ain't that. In comparison, this is breakneck hardcore punk with early heavy metal touches that stops for nobody and nothing. With track names like 'Slut', 'Maniac', 'Sick Boy' and 'War Dogs', you can probably imagine how thick and fast the chords, riffs and drum rolls come, with the raw energy, rage and wit that has always made punk so damned vital here in full effect and more than a hint of early Motorhead to the pacing and lyrical flow, which should tell you everything there is to know.

Bob Dylan's Got A Lot To Answer For (3:34)
Review: "If the Pop Rivets (the first group I was in in 1977) had been "successful" in the formal sense, then it would have been a disaster - no learning about sound, growth, and independence. Luckily, we considered ourselves successful from the outset by doing what we wanted the way we wanted. We believed the hype of punk rock - do-it-yourself and lived it, unlike the "successful" leaders of the movement."

So says Wild Billy Childish to Damaged Goods, the label carrying this iconic renegade's appropriately-titled Failure Not Success album. Across 12 tracks, we get some typically stand out covers (one of which is Jimi Hendrix's 'Fire', no less), a new version of the landmark 'Bob Dylan's Got A Lot To Answer For', alongside a host of fresh evidence that the artist in question is a rough diamond among the remnants of true rock music - raw, rhythmic, and destined to make you move.
