Shat Pop (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: LWKMUS 008. Rel: 28 Jan 19
  1. Shat Pop (Saldes mix) (5:58)
  2. Shat Pop (Flood1 remix) (6:03)
  3. Shat Pop (Electro mix) (5:52)
  4. Shat Pop (Ambient mix) (5:54)
Review: Lustwerk Music presents a mysterious new entity known simply as The Fock. With little to no background information, this record stakes its own claim within the Galcher-verse by offering up a range of mixes of "Shat Pop." The "Saldes Mix" is a proper immersion heater of cerebral techno, while the nervy, stomping "Flood1 Remix" is credited to White Material regular Young Male. The "Electro Mix" has a squelchy, boogie-inflected palette offset by woozy atmospherics, and the "Ambient Mix" unsurprisingly does away with the drums and drifts in limbo with a disembodied tannoy announcement for company.

  1. Second Stimulus (8:59)
  2. Synchro Surfer (6:15)
Review: Long-serving British producer Toby Tobias returns to ESP Institute for a second time. Intriguingly, A-side "Second Stimulus" - arguably one of his finest cuts to date - is a little more robust and bass-heavy that his usual offerings, with floatation tank motifs and cascading chords rising above a bold, chunky, sub-bass-rich groove. It's undeniably floor-friendly, but also deliciously spacey and quietly melodious. Turn to the flipside for "Synchro Surfer", where expertly dubbed-out synth refrains rise above a deep, purist tech-house groove. It's the sort of record we'd have expected to hear at a Wiggle party in the late '90s, which is no bad thing.

Cat: FDF 008. Rel: 29 May 18
  1. CRM (radio mix) (8:26)
  2. NML (4:48)
  3. PRS (5:49)
Review: Aside from a few early EPs by the likes of Sven Weiseman or Nyra, among others, the Freund Der Familie imprint, run out of Berlin, has mainly featured the label's two head honchos, Klaus Rakete and Mirko Hunger. The experienced duo return to our shelves with the sublime sounds of "CRM (radio mix)", a slow but rich house nugget with a dubwise techno aesthetic, followed by "NML" and its cavernous folds of sound, along with the more break-friendly dispositions of "PRS", the EP's electro swinger.

  1. Can't Stop Shaking
  2. Dormant
Review: It's as if throughout the production process and mastering session of Profligate's Can't Stop Shaking EP faulty connections and loose wiring were intended to give the two tracks a distinctly broken timbre. The title track, infected with a T.V-static buzz, marches with the most basic, but effective, industrial back beat drums, while classic New York electro synths offer a "Can't Stop Shaking" its melody. "Dormant" on the other hand is more frenetic in its arrangement, as megaphone vocals treated to a band-pass filter are embedded into a gauzy crowd of harsh textures and arpeggiated chords that ebb and flow between the despondent and uplifting.

Review: Tadd Mullinix returns to his more experimental Charles Manier guise and follows up 2015's demonstrative sophomore American Manier with another politically galvanised trip into the darker, starker, fringe-frolicking pastures of electronica. Coated in his own artwork and burning with fusions such as a fuzzy kraut stew of "Lions Of Rojava", the swampy, insistent 99 percenter "Truest Coffer" the experience gradually builds in momentum and shape as we hit the final floor-focused throes where impenetrable weaves of molten machine funk entwine and tangle with uncompromised hypnotica. Another stern statement from the man like Cotton.
