  3. Godbody (7:16)
  4. Godbody (Young Male remix) (5:45)
Review: Alongside his fellow New Yorker P.Leone, Caiazzo launched the E-Missions label in March of this year with the release "1994EVER" - an offering that further propelled their standing in the techno community. Caiazzo is said to have moved to techno capital Berlin first and upon Leone's arrival introduced him to Work Them Records boss Spencer Parker: which soon cemented a pretty sweet deal. The Devotion EP starts off with the snarling industrial strength techno of "917" (Sportmixxx) and the tunnelling hypnotic techno journey "Lifeform". On the flip "Godbody" treads a similar path down into the void, but it's all about fellow New Yorker Young Male's rendition which takes its cues from the trance inducing Sound Of Rome made popular by the likes of Donato Dozzy & Giorgio Gigli. Four secret weapons for any serious DJ's sonic arsenal. Tip!

Cat: 032 HR. Rel: 13 Sep 17
  1. Annapurna (11:25)
  2. Makalu (5:50)
  3. Cho Oyu (5:32)
Review: New York City's Deepak Sharma is back! The main man behind Hidden Recordings has served up some great releases from the likes of JC Laurent and Dieter Krause in recent times: but it's quite fitting that the head honcho take up the reins on the label's 32nd release: and it's a good one! The Annapurna EP has definitely got you sorted for tunnelling and strobe-lit techno weapons. The title track is a straight ahead DJ tool on the trippy side. It's as effective as anything Pole Group have done of late, while "Makalulu" hones in on that noisy/industrialised strain of hypnotic techno, similar to the Avian label. Finally on the flip is the most euphoric affair in the form of 'Cho Oyu". A stripped back warehouse jam that simply lets the power of that cavernous kick drum work with those gated pads to sublime effect.

Technology Transplant (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: VV 025. Rel: 04 Sep 17
  1. Brain Drained
  2. Technology Transplant
  3. Four Two Nine
Review: Delivery is the work of Greg Shin, who has previously appeared on LA Club Resource and Smashing Tape Records. Now he appears on Torn Hawk's Valcron Video with a wonderfully diverse set of leftfield machine workouts, kicking off with the tempestuous drum twitches of "Brain Drained". "Technology Transplant" is a polar opposite, focusing on calm drifts of ambient synth with a mournful tinge. The B2 is worth digging for, as "Four Two Nine" seems to balance the two other tracks and make for the most club-ready piece on the 12".

Village Elders 001 (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: GV 005. Rel: 20 Jun 16
  1. DJ Spider - "Toxic Trace 2"
  2. Dakini9 - "Lost Paradise"
  3. Disaroen - "Serious Doorman"
  4. Nicuri - "Ripples of Time"
Review: Storming into our fifth release from the dirty shores of New Jersey, Green Village is proud to present Village Elders 001, a compilation EP featuring new material from artists who have already flown the flag for GV. The A-side is held down by the Plan B duo of DJ Spider and Dakini9, purveyors of the Metro Area's dirtiest and deepest house sounds. Spider gets toxic a second time, following his 2013 Instruction drop with 'Toxic Trace 2', a thickly layered deep house cut whose seedy percussion underbelly contrasts vividly with the more traditional deep house pads that accompany it. Dakini9's 'Lost Paradise' is dark and mysterious like its title, the hats, trumpets, and vocals emerging in tangled webs of dub effects, a strong follow-up to her dope EP for the label. Disaroen, a duo from Toronto, half of which previously appeared on GV, turns in the most barren of the four tracks, 'Serious Doorman', heads-down techno that crackles to life halfway in and an auspicious debut for a promising new group. Last is NJ heavyweight Nicuri, a rising star whose 'Ripples of Time' closes the EP in his signature searching, melodic style.

Personal FX (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: DISCO TRECE. Rel: 04 Dec 17
  1. $ LFO
  2. Personal FX
  3. John Cage Is My Homeboy
  4. Sai Ying Pun
Review: Hailing from Hong Kong and more commonly found recording as S.Y., this release is the first music the producer has put out as Dopamine Rider, and it's certainly a record that thrives on unpredictable rushes of chemicals to the brain, making it a perfect fit on Discos Capablanca. "$ LFO" sports a techno framework of sorts, but it's really a vessel for strange ripples of FX and one-shot tones, but then "Personal FX" ramps up the freakiness with some atonal machine whirring that sounds like it's been wrenched from an errant modular system. "John Cage Is My Homeboy" is positively delicate in comparison, but it's by no means straight laced, and "Sai Ying Pun" finishes this adventurous EP off with a strange drum track that adds a little spice to the DJ tool format.

  1. Heptagon (5:33)
  2. Prism (7:11)
  3. Nitrogen (6:05)
  4. Thirty Four (5:27)
Review: Eric Cloutier launched Palinoia last year with a single of his own, but now he's turned to Berlin mainstays Exercise One to lay down some of their trademark psychoactive machine music for the second installment. "Heptagon" sports metallic synth notes clanging out over a freight train of techno drums, while "Prism" takes a more nimble approach to twist out its various synthetic squeaks. "Nitrogen" is a warmer proposition, placing the emphasis on chords and melodies while still aiming squarely at the dancefloor. "Thirty Four" finds the duo veering away from the 4/4 dogma to deliver a captivating kind of broken techno in a soundscape loaded with tension and ominous empty space.

  2. Drifting To Parts Unknown (7:55)
  3. Ten 18 (6:47)
  4. Enjoy The Flesh (6:24)
Review: Escape The Matrix sees the return of NYC sewer dweller Gut Nose, back on the Styles Upon Styles label that issued his superb 2014 album Filthy City. "Ten 18" is a noisy, loopy roller with a chopped up vocal thrown into the mix. It also has a punky undercurrent. Such rough and ready elements are pervasive elsewhere on Escape The Matrix. "Moon Lasers" revolves around a loose rhythm, dubbed out drums and atmospheric textures, while "Drifting to Parts Unknown" follows a similar approach, albeit to a faster tempo and noisier soundscapes. Gut Nose is also adept at making more musical tracks, and on "Enjoy Thy Flesh" even embraces jazzy keys, but he's primarily interested in noisy, at the fringes techno, as the fuzzy, frazzled live drums on "Crafty Gambit" demonstrate.

Cat: NAAR 007. Rel: 26 Jun 17
  1. Buried Answers
  2. Buried Answers (Jamie Blanco remix)
  3. Literate
  4. Literate (Tiago Team Fumo remix)
Review: Not An Animal Records was formed in 2015 out of the ashes of the London-based party Bad Passion, and has thus far welcomed the likes of Man Power, Ess O Ess and Eric Duncan to release on the label. Now they turn to James Hadfield, a relatively new producer previously spotted on To Rack & Ruin and Me Me Me. On this four-tracker he deals in brooding synthwave tones mixed with classic jack track rhythms. "Literate" is just the kind of taut, sinister club creeper we can't get enough of, while "Buried Answers" takes a skippier but no less moody approach. On the remix front, Jamie Blanco takes the prize, turning "Buried Answers" into a bombastic slice of driving synth pop.

  3. Sinapsi Sonora (7:11)
  4. State Of Induced Hibernation (5:06)
Review: Antonio Marini aka Healing Force Project is back with the Tranhumanism EP on Ambiwa. Starting out with the ever mysterious "Methodical Ear", it's more of the same later on "Sinapsi Sonora" which like the previously mentioned track sounds like the dusty and emotive deepness of early Sound Signature via the tough and rusty swing of fellow Italians Relative; a nice touch indeed. He then gives us the brooding and hypnotic "Shadow Manipulation Of The Mind" awash in delay drenched organs and skeletal vintage drum machine flair. But the fierce yet restrained functionalism of "State Of Induced Hibernation" with its near tribal moments supported by a series of exotic and mindbending drones is pure bliss. We'll say it again: Marini is undoubtedly one of the most underrated producers in techno at the moment!

Review: Bliq Records fire up the coffers for 2018 with a new jam from Iakovos, otherwise known as Lowjac and spotted in groups such as Anopolis and Deemonlover. He's a regular on Bliq, and steps up under his own name with seriously on-point club tackle for those who like their hybrid sounds. "Singers" straps some breakbeat choppage to a mellow deep techno stomp, while "Evil Flower" unfurls in a fit of edgy electro before "Adidas People" cools things down with a focused trip into straight up psych-out techno. "Hackney Tower" finishes the EP off on a wonderfully creepy tip, all skin-crawling acidic gurgles and unsettling voices to inspire paranoid glances in the club.

Review: If you're in the market for an otherworldly trip into deep space, this quietly impressive debut from I.M.J.U.S could just be the ticket. Taking the sparse and spacey feel of Drexciyan electro as its' base, the EP saunters between discordant, out-there ambient ("Insomnia"), hypnotic deep techno ("Welcome to Scientology"), wild alien funk masquerading as body-jacking techno ("After Orgie"), slow and slugy, industrial-influenced sleaze ("Untitled 6") and viciously pitched-up madness with added old school bleeps. It's a mixture that makes perfect sonic sense but also remains thrillingly surprising even after multiple listens. Certainly, we'd recommend it to those who like their electronic music tough, out-there and eccentric.

Review: Starting to make diversions from his beloved $tinkworx moniker, JT Stewart makes his second outing under his own name for Greece's Echovolt label, dealing in sumptuous analogue synthesis in a strange vein somewhere between house and techno, although certainly not tech house. It's richly melodic stuff, but also detuned just enough to add some excitement and mystery to the mix. "Vandaleur" struts along with a sci-fi-horror tone, while "Forgotten Hauler" gets a bit rougher in the percussion department while the synths pound out a Detroit manifesto. "Ophelia" on the B-Side takes a more relaxed affair as the groove skips playfully and light piano and string pads define the atmosphere.

Review: Brit in Melbourne Kloke follows up previous releases on this impressive NYC label (and sterling effort in 2014 on Sub Squared) with something different. The intense Latin percussion workout of "PHONE" sounds like Sergio Mendes on steroids in this relentless epic, while "Rhythm #1" is more restrained in its exotic execution. Jamal Moss does an impressive job as ever on the remix. His analogue hardware jam turning the track into something else completely.
