Doepfer A-105-4 Quad SSM VCF Module
Cat: 676691 Rel: 21 Sep 18

Polyphonic filter with four identical 24dB Lowpass filters 8HP
Notes: A-105-4 is our first polyphonic filter and contains four
identical 24dB Lowpass filters (SSM2044 type). It has
available common manual controls and CV inputs with
attenuators for these parameters:

Frequency (F)

Frequency Modulation Intensity (FM)

Resonance (Q)

Audio Input Level (L)
Each filter has available a separate FM input as well as an Audio Input and Output. The FM input is typically connected to the output of the associated envelope generator (e.g. A-141-4).
The envelope amount for all four filters is controlled by the FM knob and the CVFM input by means of four built-in VCAs, which are controlled by the FM control and CVFM input. This allows also voltage control of the envelope amounts.

In addition common frequency modulation for all filters is possible (e.g. by an LFO). For this the CVF input with attenuator can be used. The range of the audio input level control (L) allows also clipping/distortion with typical A-100 audio levels
(e.g. from A-111-4) at the filter inputs. Even this parameter is voltage controllable as well as the resonance (Q).
Application: polyphonic patches (four VCFs with same parameters).

Doepfer A-132-8 Octal Poly VCA Module
Cat: 676692 Rel: 18 Jul 18

Octal VCA module containing four VCA pairs - 8HP
Notes: A-132-8 is an octal VCA and primarily planned for polyphonic applications. The module contains four VCA pairs. Each pair includes two daisy-chained VCAs. One VCA has a linear control scale, for the second VCA linear or exponential control scale can be chosen by means of jumpers. We decided to provide two VCAs for each voice because usually one VCA is required for loudness envelope and a second one for velocity (or other functions like individual voltage-controlled loudness of each voice, amplitude modulation and so on).

These controls and in/outputs are available:

- Default Gain 1 (GL)
- Default Gain 2 (GX)
- CV Input VCA 1
- CV Input VCA 2
- Audio Input
- Audio Output

In addition, an Audio Sum Output is also available.

The module features two Default Gain controls (GL, GX), that enable the opening of the first VCAs (L) and/or second VCAs (X). For this the controls GL and GX generate two internal control voltages 0...+10V which are connected to the switching contacts of the sockets 1L...4L (control GL) and 1X...4X (control GX). As long as no patch cable is inserted into the socket in question the internal default control voltage (GL or GX) is used to control the corresponding VCA. This is necessary when the VCA in question is not in use (i.e. no external CV available). Otherwise the VCA would close and there would be no output signal even if the other VCA in the chain is open. The controls GL and GX are also useful for testing polyphonic patches (e.g. for tuning the VCOs).

In the factory the CV inputs are adjusted for a CV range 0...+10V - matching to the polyphonic ADSR module A-141-4. But the sensitivity of each CV input can be adjusted by means of a trimming potentiometer to adapt the CVs even to other control voltage ranges.

- Four voice polyphonic (i.e. to control four monophonic voices by one Midi channel) with several sub-modes (e.g. rotating/non-rotating)
- Two voice polyphonic (i.e. to control two monophonic voices by one Midi channel)
- Unisono

The basic mode is selected by means of a momentary switch (probably Mode or Algor.) and is shown in the LC display. Certain parameters of each mode can be edited (e.g. the midi channel(s), the midi reference note for 0V CV, assigned controllers for CV2 and CV3). For this the momentary switch Edit/Play is used. The parameter values (e.g. midi channels) are shown in the display and can be modified by means of the momentary switches 1...4. In Play mode the LEDs of these four switches display the gate states.

Qu-Bit Scanned Organic Wavetable VCO Module (black faceplate)
Cat: 677589 Rel: 15 Oct 18

Organic wavetable oscillator featuring scanned synthesis - 16HP
Notes: Scanned is an organic wavetable oscillator. It uses an unexplored technique known as Scanned Synthesis to animate wavetables that are created in real-time. This synthesis method was conceived by the father of computer music, Max Mathews, as the next paradigm in digital oscillators, and until now, has never been implemented on hardware.

The wavetables are dynamically generated from a set of "objects" tied together on a virtual string. These objects have physical properties including Mass, Stiffness, and Damping which affect the way that the string moves through space and time. Unlike physical modelling, however, this algorithm is a means of creating new electronic sounds, not replicating acoustic instruments.

To animate the waveform, the objects are morphed into the currently selected hammer shape and then released. This excitation of the sound generates evolving timbral landscapes that contain harmonic movement without external modulation. The hammer section also determines whether Scanned is a free-running oscillator, or a triggered sound source allowing it to function as a complete voice without additional filters or VCAs.

Qu-Bit Synapse Crossfading Switch Module (black faceplate)
Qu-Bit Synapse Crossfading Switch Module (black faceplate) (mixer/quad/switch/utility/VCA/attenuator/CV modulation/LFO synth module)
Cat: 677586 Rel: 30 Aug 18

Voltage controlled, cross fading switch - 20HP
Notes: Synapse is a crossfading switch with a signal path that can be rearranged on the fly. Its dynamic routing and mixing functionality make it capable of turning static waveforms into evolving soundscapes.

The core of Synapse is comprised of four crossfade circuits chained to a sequential switch, all under digital control. This enables many intelligent behaviours that aren't possible in the analogue domain. Crossfade positions can be saved in up to eight memory locations for easy recall. These let you create sections within your patch, and travel through them with a single knob - all without repatching. In addition, the switch outputs can be rotated left, right, or randomized, enabling unique spatialization of sounds through effect chains, filters, or other mixers.

Synapse can process CV signals just as well as audio and even generate its own adjustable DC voltage for modulation. A configurable +5V DC offset is normalled to each B input, allowing it to function as a four step sequencer or eight stage stored voltage source without needing any additional modules.

Studio Electronics Boomstar Modular Amp Module
Cat: 655797 Rel: 14 Jul 20

Analog amplifier module in Eurorack format - 8HP
Notes: The amplifier (AMP) is a 2 stage Class A discrete design using 3 pairs of hand matched transistors. Envelope is usually applied to ST1/1. ST1/2 goes thru an attenuverter and can be used for envelope or modulation. ST2/1 goes to the 2nd stage, and is typically used for volume control. ST2/2 goes thru an attenuverter and is typically used for modulation.

The AMP, the 5089, and the 3003 are Class A circuits. They draw more current from the +12 rail than from the -12 volt rail. If the system power supply is under-sized, hum or buzz may be heard. In that case, larger filter capacitors and/or a larger power transformer will be needed. The 4075 draws equally from both rails, and is more immune to hum. Like our filters Boomstar Modular AMPs are hand-built entirely in the U. S. of A - just ask Rachael Herbison!

Potentiometer Potential:
Two attenuverters and two attenuation pots control the INPUT, ST1 CV2, ST2 CV2, and OUTPUT, delivering smooth, detailed, and complex expression.

Switch it Up:
Uber useful continuous hypnotic DRONE for endless sustain/release, and DRIVE - the overdrive circuit from the Boomstar desktop - for last stage energy, bite, soft clipping, and gonzo '70's era "Distortion Plus" crunchy fuzz.

Patch it Up:

All Controls and Patch Points:

INPUT - Adjusts the audio input
ST1 CV2 - Adjusts stage 1, control voltage 2

Studio Electronics Boomstar Modular Sci Fi Module
Cat: 655848 Rel: 14 Jul 20

Ring modulator, noise generator & sample-and-hold generator module
Notes: SCI FI is an ingeniously vintage-circuit-inspired Richard Nicol/Pittsburgh Modular original - jump cut to Mattechmodular to see just how much fun can be wrung out of it!

As the reader might already know, ring modulation is a signal-processing electronic function: an implementation of amplitude modulation or frequency mixing, performed by multiplying two signals. This beloved other-worldly, warm, and at times clangourous colouring dates at least as far back to Bode's Melochord of 1947 technology, which was ultimately licensed to Robert Moog in the early 1960s. Of course analog maestros Don Buchla, and Lord Tom Oberheim made their indelible marks, with circuitry culminating - to our ears - in the brilliantly rhythmic, and wildly expressive Yamaha CS-80 Ringmod's sonic alchemy and "Electone" informed controls.

Back at the Modstar Ranch: The SCI FI's outputted ring-modulated signal is the sum and difference of the frequencies present in each waveform - a signal rich in partials - often producing a haunting, bell-like, metallic, and sometimes softly grinding, understated modulation awash in harmonic and non-harmonic tones. S.E. brought its own brand of dynamic ModMax Pedal-flavoured Ringmod to the world in 2002.

SCI FI is getting better all the time with its companion LFO FREQ (low frequency oscillator), true analog PINK, and digital WHITE noise, S & H - a true sample and hold generator, with RANGE control, and LAG generator - a slew limiter which craftily smooths out changes in audio or modulation signals: higher values = smoother signal flowing. This module is every bit as creamy sounding as it is electrically charged: the higher frequencies coat the sound with a sparkling quality one wouldn't naturally expect, but it is a welcome sound indeed.

Potentiometer Potential:
Six attenuation pots: RING MOD, LFO FREQ, WHITE, PINK, RANGE, and LAG.

Patch it Up:
Seven patch points: RM X IN, RM Y IN, GATE, SOURCE, RM OUT, WHITE, PINK, and S & H OUT.

All Controls and Patch Points:
RING MOD - Adjusts the ring mod depth.
LFO FREQ - Adjusts the rate of the sample & hold.
WHITE - Adjusts the white noise level.
PINK - Adjusts the pink noise level.
RANGE - Adjusts the sample & hold depth or intensity.
LAG - Adjusts the sample and hold lag or slew limiting (glide): in the circuit after the sample & hold and before the range attenuator.
RM X IN - Ring Mod X waveform input.
RM Y IN - Ring Mod Y waveform input.
GATE - External gate input for sample & hold.
SOURCE - External audio/CV input for sample & hold.
RM OUT - Ring Mod output.
WHITE - White noise output.
PINK - Pink noise output - the pink noise is normalled to the source input of the sample & hold.
S & H OUT - Sample & hold output.

Studio Electronics Boomstar Modular VCA2 Module
Cat: 655873 Rel: 12 Nov 20

Dual VCA module in Eurorack format - 6HP
Notes: Two quality VCAs for audio or CV with level control - advantageous for creating a CV modulation chain: Patch the 1st (controlling) modulator into the CV input, and the 2nd and 3rd (the controlled) modulators into inputs A and B; the output can then be patched to a modulation destination such as an oscillator or filter frequency. The same approach is effective for enveloping an LFO, or dynamically modulating an LFO or envelope with key velocity, modwheel, key tracking, etc. One can even escape the highly coloured Mini-flavoured character of our AMP with this quad op-amp alternative for cleaner, sharper tonality in the near final stages of synthesis.

Originally set at unity gain (along with the MIX4), now units with a January 16 (2016) and greater marking will exceed unity and clip the op-amp, past 3:00 on the dial. Upshot: Fully clockwise the gain is doubled. Distortion of audio and modulation signals never hurt anyone, and add another tool to the box.

Note: In the audio realm clipping may occur sooner dependent up signal input level.

Two Pots:
LEVEL 1, LEVEL 2

Eight Patch Points:
CV 1, IN 1A, IN 1B, OUT 1; CV 2, IN 2A, IN 2B, OUT 2

Common Controls and Patch Points:
LEVEL - Level/Mix adjustment
CV - Controlling CV modulation input
IN A - Controlled Input 1A
IN B - Controlled Input 1B
OUT - Output

Waldorf Quantum 8 Voice Hybrid Polyphonic Synthesizer
Cat: 648201 Rel: 24 Sep 18

Hybrid polyphonic synthesiser with a range of modulation capabilities and effects
Notes: Waldorf is proud to announce a new chapter in their tradition of designing high-end ground breaking synthesizers. Starting with Waldorf's famous wavetable technology developed decades ago, it was always a challenge to give our instruments a powerful flexible beating heart. Our digital oscillators coupled to the enormous power and efficient simplicity of our analog filters started the digital revolution back in the 80's.

Quantum combines the raw power of a classic digital & analog hybrid synthesizer, with futuristic sounds that are only possible with today's software synthesizers.

Its 3 Oscillators offer four synthesis algorithms each:

- Waldorf-style Wavetables with the latest additions from Nave, including speech synthesis and wavetable generation from audio
- Classic Synthesizer Waveforms with multiple waves for an ultra fat sounds right out of the oscillators
- Granular Sampler with multi sampling plus traditional sampling mode
- Resonator for virtual sound sculpting
- Quantum Display

The flexibility emanating from Quantum's powerful oscillators and their interaction with one another is simply breath-taking. Never before has it ever been possible to create such a wide sonic bandwidth with one synthesizer. Stretching from classic analog, with precise sample playback, through to harsh or animated digital sounds, escalating all the way up to sound and sequence clusters, that can only be achieved with a modular synthesizer system.

Quantum's beautiful ergonomic and intuitive user panel supports an artist's workflow with a previously unknown elegance. The carefully crafted array of aluminium knobs and encoders surround an ultra hi-resolution multi touch display. Waldorf engineers spent many long hours perfecting the interaction between the display and the physical control elements. The stunning display is a highly flexible extension of the tactile experience, and is light-years ahead of any synthesizer currently on the market today.

To help understand functional correlations between one knob and another, each control knob is individually illuminated by a multi colour LED. This makes it instantly obvious when viewing complex settings and modulation settings, where related parameters can be adjusted quickly and efficiently. With the help once again of the gorgeous central display, precise settings can be handled with ease, much the same as the experience when using your cutting edge computer tablet.

When the Waldorf engineers decided to develop Quantum, little did they realise it would take several years of painstaking work. There were areas of Quantum that our years of experience with sound generation were bought to the fore. But Quantum is so powerful it took our team into uncharted territory, involving both sound and the way it was felt the musician would interact with it.

Quantum was designed and developed by our dedicated team in Germany. All essential components have been designed, manufactured and assembled here in Germany. This has allowed us to manufacture Quantum with an unparalleled build quality. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank a world class array of sound designers that have contributed to a multi-facetted factory sound set.

Waldorf STVC String Synthesizer & Vocoder
Cat: 675800 Rel: 16 Jan 20

Desktop synthesiser featuring a 49-note keyboard & vocoding features
Notes: Gorgeous retro-inspired synth. Heavily based on 70s string synthesisers and vocoders, updated in a modern format. Proper lush vibes.

Supplier's notes:
The string section starts with an oscillator bank using octave dividers, followed by a complex mixer, an equalizer and the ensemble effect, just like string machines from the 70's. A single registration knob sweeps through mixer and EQ settings for Violin, Viola, Cello, Brass, Organ, Choir and more for creating rich and creamy sonic textures.

The Solo section is a 16-voice synthesizer that complements the string sounds. A single Tone knob sweeps through many useful settings. Solo is the sidekick to the strings, but it is powerful enough to be the lead character every now and then.

The Vocoder replaces the equalizer in the string section with the filter bank that models the vocal tract from the speech input. This can produce quite intelligible speech or singing using the fully polyphonic oscillator bank. Formants can be modified, which can result in a perceived change of gender. Adjustable jitter of the string oscillators renders the voice hoarse, creaky or a complete whisper. Solo can pass through the Vocoder or play in parallel.

The Freeze button lets you freeze a short speech fragment, which is then repeated by the Vocoder whenever a key is pressed. Change of playback speed, like faster, backwards or a complete stop are possible and fun, as well as formant change.

A novel Tweak function allows for modification or modulation of details, like e.g. the solo cut-off frequency or the Chorus LFO rate. It is similar to a modulation matrix, but it also allows to alter implicit settings with a fixed value or an offset.

Three Effects operate simultaneously - Animate is in fact a modulation of the string or vocoder registration, while a Phaser is a must for any decent string machine. A high-quality Reverb with adjustable size can be mixed to the output.

STVC comes with a high-quality gooseneck microphone that plugs right into the front panel where it belongs.
