Brique - "The Future" (6:16)
Brique - "Customer Service Meltdown" (7:12)
Babu - "Apollo" (5:57)
Babu - "American War" (6:02)
Review: Brique and Babu step up for two tracks each on this nice and cosmic new tech house offering from the Quinoa Cuts label. Brique get first with a deft blend of silky synth designs and snappy tech house drums. It's both driving and physical but nice and heady at the same time. His 'Customer Service Meltdown' has more textural, fizzy synths snaking their way through the crispy tech beats, then Babu's 'Apollo' has an acid-laced sound and cyborg vocals piped in. Last of all is 'American War' with more tight, bobbing beats and electro-tinged rhythms.

AFK (6:10)
I Just Wanna (6:18)
Stay Close To Me (5:04)
Weedbounce (5:04)
Human (5:05)
Review: Heko Records welcomes DJ Cream to the label for a debut outing that resents the Italian artist's vibrant style. It's a potent mix of dynamic drum sounds which are inspired by the late 90s and early 2000s and is well-timed to land during summer. 'AFK' is an upbeat retro-future tech house trip, while 'I Just Wanna' slows down a touch and allows more pensive chord work to shine. 'Stay Close To Me' flips the script with some slapping analogue percussion and splashy pads with a cosmic edge and the variety continues with the deeper vibes of 'Weedbounce' and AI sound designs of 'Human'.

2000's EP
2000's EP (12")
Cat: KEST 001. Rel: 18 Jul 24
2000's (7:19)
Kosmove (8:34)
Rokicks (6:52)
Motiv (6:08)
Review: We're told that these tunes on the new Kest 12" were "recorded in the path of the Andean mountains that crosses the whole city of Bogota," which is where the label is based. Whether or not that adds anything specific to the sounds we're not sure but they are nice minimal grooves all the same. '2000s' is a light, airy number with pulsing synths that move it onward. 'Kosmove' is more trippy with its psychedelic patterns looping over crisp metal beats. 'Rokicks' brings some prog and acid hints from the 90s and 'Motiv' shuts down with a nice celestial and dreamy number for the heads.

Just A Little Bit (11:36)
Review: Few in electronic music have the wizardry on synths as Mathew Jonson, the classically trained jazzman who brings endless invention and rich design to his tracks. Many of them over the years have come on the Crosstown Rebels label and that is where he lands now. 'Tako Tako' kicks off with inquisitive leads that come with a sense of uncertainty and paranoia over thudding deep techno drums. On the flip side is 'Just A Little Bit' with its snappy finger clicks and bubbling drums that are lithe and rubbery. It's another terrific two-tracker from this legend of the scene.

Moonlight (reissue)
Cat: CPS 125. Rel: 17 Jul 24
Moonlight (Alfa mix) (7:27)
Moonlight (Gamma mix) (5:55)
Moonlight (Alex Neri remix) (6:29)
Moonlight (Alessio Collina Tribe Acid remix) (6:00)
Review: In its formative years in the first half of the 1990s, IRMA offshoot Calypso Records released some of the finest Italo-house records of the period. By the middle of the decade, though, the imprint was dipping its toe into darker and infinitely more druggy territory. DJ Nabile's 'Moonlight', featuring some chanted and spoken lead vocals byLucio Baradel, played a key role in this transformation. All these years on, it still sounds fresh. Side A boasts two of the earliest versions: the mind-mangling 'Alfa Mix', where dark and moody, Tenaglia-esque motifs ride an extra-percussive tribal house groove, and the more rolling 'Gamma Mix'. Over on the flip you'll find two previously unreleased takes - a throbbing, heavy and warped bass-propelled Alex Neri revision, and Alessio Colina's stomping and hallucinatory 'Tribe Acid Remix'.

Review: With its next release, Rezpektiva's Prozpektiva series platforms an artist they think is a future star of the minimal and techno scene. Pi hails from Montevideo, Uruguay, which is where a few new school names have emerged in recent times. He has served up singles on labels such as Holistico Records, White Scar and Lutzifer but this is his first solo EP. It's an intriguing mix of techno, breakbeat and electro with heady melodic tones up top all making for a great mix of snappy low ends and captivating emotions that bring freshness to the floor.
