ZYX GermanyAlthough most think of Italo disco as a purely 1980s phenomenon, in truth it never really died. The pop end of the spectrum - the style that inspired many British synth-pop acts in Thatcher's era, most notably the Pet Shop Boys and producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman - continues to thrive around Europe. This second Italo Disco New Generation compilation from pop/Euro-disco specialists ZYX shines a light on the sound today, offering a mix of jaunty synth-pop and Bobby Orlando-ish dancefloor energy. While it's decidedly camp throughout (as you'd expect, really), there are some gems to be found - not least Eddy Huntington's Sally Shapiro-ish "Honey Honey!" and Galactic Warriors intergalactic synth jam "Humanoid Battle".
