1. | "Summers Madness" (Steve Summers version) |
Both artist and label impressed the Juno Disco review crew when Lectric Sands bosses Zoovox dropped the one sided 12" Zoovox Theme last Spring - an expert slice of Linn drum driven galactic disco slowed down to a delightfully lolloping pace. An overdue follow-up arrives in the shape of Transistor Madness, notable for both a hike in tempo from the Zoovox duo of Ben Gebhardt and "Tropical" Jeremy Campbell and the accompanying remix from Steve Summers! The original takes another sly nod to dancefloor rhythms from days gone by, quickly settling into a rasping proto house groove that slowly teases out a delightful array of atmospheric pads and deft melodic textures over the ever present fudge boogie of the analogue bass line. Quickly settling into his position as the destination du jour for devastatingly effective machine funk infused psychedelia, Steve Summers twists the dubby moments of the opening bars inside out, bringing through a visceral acid line that jaggedly seeps away at the cascading lines of loose drums in a fashion similar to a grazed and angered Giger xenomorph.
