While undoubtedly best known for his work as part of Slum Village and Plantinum Pied Pipers, Waajeed has spent the last few years exploring the dusty deep house sounds of his home city, Detroit. This EP for Carl Craig's Planet E imprint comes on the back of collaborations with Theo Parrish and a handful of killer 12" singles. As you'd expect, it's impeccably produced, with the storied beat-maker sauntering between soul-fired deep house/Detroit techno fusion ("Track 1"), lolloping, Theo-meets-Larry Heard deepness ("Track 2"), piano-laden peak-time stomp ("Track 3") and shimmering, intergalactic richness (Kyle Hall style closer "Track 4"). In other words, it's another essential EP from a man whose music simply oozes soul, regardless of the style he's operating in.
