With releases for Planet Rhythm Records, Semantica and, more recently, the excellent MIdgar label from Berlin, Von Grall is steadily establishing himself as a highly efficient producer of slick, mechanical techno that works well for both dancefloor entrees and peak time servings. This is his second release for Midgar, and "Following The Rules" oozes its subtle yet ominous bass tones like a nuclear reactor, which leaves "The Right Slope" to diffuse some of that contained energy with a skeletal arrangement of frost-bitten techno. "Bad Reputation" is all about the intricate percussion swings circling around a barren landscape of atmospheric tones, and its surreal environment is pushed even further out into the ether thanks to "Permanent Pricess" and its fibrous assortment of bubbling sonics. Deep, deep gear.
