Venus Dodson's "Shining" is perhaps not one of Leroy Burgess's better-known productions, but is arguably one of his best. It was recorded and released in limited quantities in 1979 and quickly became a favourite of Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage. From this facsimile reissue, it's easy to see why the late, great DJ was a fan: packed full of energy with instrumentation reminiscent of Burgess's work as part of Logg, it's a gospel-influenced, percussive thriller. With DJ Tee Scott on mixing duties, there are plenty of extended breaks for the dancers, too. On the flip side you'll find original promo B-side "He Said, She Said", a soaring, hands-aloft orchestra disco pumper produced by Ken Morris and Patrick Adams.
