Gunnar 'Kassem Mosse' Wendel's Ominara label is prone to throwing the occasional curve ball; see the unannounced Siege Of Troy cassette album from Mosse that surfaced earlier this year. Welcoming the talents of Throwing Shade into the Ominara fold is still a move few would predict, but it's one that pays immense dividends as her Mystic Places 12" is a delight. The production alias of NTS Radio host Nabihah Iqbal, Throwing Shade focuses on a self styled "cosmic RnB" approach that's wholly evocative of the vividly colourful artwork that adorns this 12". The title track calls shotgun, unfurling in a manner that will appeal to followers of Nguzunguzu or Visionist yet still retaining it's own distinct charm, whilst B Side track "Lights" is the sort of production that screams set opener, with gaseous clouds of texture billowing out for some three minutes before any semblance of a beat makes an appearance. The usage and implementation of vocal samples on both tracks is quite memorable.
