This Record Store Day special is a recording from 1977 that was previously issued only in Japan after being recorded at fabled San Francisco studio The Automatt. It finds the great Herbie Hancock embracing his jazz roots with his piano front and centre of every tune as his backers - Ron Carter on bass and Tony Williams behind the drums - give him the platform he needs to shine. The tracks are high energy and dance-y and feature Hancock originals plus this outfit's fine take on Miles Davis' 'Milestones'.
