Review

Tenderlonious and Dennis Ayler first joined forces in the studio last year, with the first fruits of their combined labours (a fine cut called "Put it On") appearing on Ayler's first 7" single for 22a. They clearly enjoyed working together, because they've now laid down an entire album of collaborative efforts. Heavily rooted in jazz, broken beat and vintage Herbie Hancock material, the album's genius lies in its energetic fluidity, thrilling percussive looseness and the duo's refreshing "anything goes" approach. Listing all of the sounds and styles represented would take forever, but suffice to say it's one of the most vibrant, colourful and hard-to-pigeonhole sets we've heard for a while.
