Inspired by a spiritually aligned journey through the north-west of Mexico, and indeed by the open vistas and expanses of the desert itself, this duo sees the Irish Berlin-dwelling Nunutzi and her Venezualian partner Gerard Pasquin embarking on an aural journey that marries mystical atmosphere with hymnal tradition from England, Spain and Ireland alike, not to mention garagey psychedelia with spectral folk, arriving at a dark yet uplifting ritualistic catharsis as likely to appeal to fans of Goat as The Creatures, Tinariwen as Brian Jonestown Massacre. Far from the lure of retro trappings and tired rock shapes, this debut boasts a gravitas and authenticity as old as the prayers and chants it draws on.
