|1.||"Arctic Lights" (7:03)|
Given that he shares an alias with a legendary black metal drummer, it's perhaps not surprising that Svarog's regular techno missives tend towards the dark, intense and claustrophobic. A prime example can be found at the start of "Phenomenon", the Ukranian producer's fourth 12-inch for AFFIN. "Arctic Lights" is percussively heavy and driving, with a thrusting, metronomic bassline and dystopian, mind-altering industrial textures. It feels like a track created for the end of days. That sense of loss and paranoia is even sharper on the hypnotic and dark minimalism of "Thunder", while "Fog" grumpily escorts us on a Halloween trip through creepily becalmed seas and eerily silent forests. To round things off, Svarog serves up some foreboding and feverish techno for pitch-black basements and dimy lit industrial units ("Lightning").
