For those with a keen knowledge of boogie, the Stevens Brothers' "Smoke & Fire" 7" has long been something of a "holy grail"; an obscure, hard-to-find private press release that's amongst the finest examples of the genre. Happily, the siblings behind the record have decided to do their own reissue, getting the title track - all rubbery slap-bass, winding synth solos and smooth, soulful vocals - and its' similarly inspired B-side, "Love Crazy", an official re-release. Both tracks have been given the re-master treatment, meaning that they pack an even greater punch. This is particularly evident on "Love Crazy", which benefits greatly from a stripped-back groove and alternate male and female vocals.
