Review

Japanese producer Ken "Stereociti" Sumitani has been a regular contributor to Don Williams' Mojuba label since 2009. Rain, though, is his first single for the imprint since 2012, and his first outing of any sort for a year. Predictably he's in fine form, attempting to go deeper than many would think humanly possible. The title track - blessed with samples of raindrops falling on a window - is particularly delicious, with Sumitani layering soft electronics and alien melodies over a locked-in, Detroit-influenced deep house groove. The more percussive and undeniably bass-heavy "Ahead", which comes with just a whisper of ragged acid - is, if anything, even deeper. Neither, though, can hold a candle to "Process of Decay", a deep tech-house shuffler that sounds like it was recorded several kilometres below the floor of the world's deepest ocean.
