Son of Sound is Henry Maldonado of Brooklyn, New York who has been producing since the '90s under aliases such as Groove Culture, Future Soul and Native Underground. Returning for the fifth release on his own Son Of Sound label, the Love Up Beat Down EP commences with the dirty, funked up disco loops of "Bout Love Again" which is redolent of classic DJ Sneak, while "Need Each Other" is a much deeper and more lo-slung affair using those classic soul samples and liberal use of the filter: which is always a good touch. Finally on the flip we've got "Influence Is Bliss" and indeed it is on this neon-lit boogie number with some sharp and sassy synth work that calls to mind Kaidi Thatham or Bugz In The Attic.
