Freerange has been a deep house mainstay for many years, and so has the American duo Solid Gold Playaz aka Big Mike T and Kenny Gino. They have released only the odd EP in the last five years having put out the bulk of their material in the decade before that. But now they make a welcome return with some well-assembled house grooves that seem indebted to the sun-kissed West Coast sounds. Their drums are raw, basslines fresh and hooks left of centre. This has got plenty of classic motifs but sounds utterly fresh and is one of our fav EPs of recent times.
