Japanese jazz band Soil & Pimp Sessions have an explosive sound thanks to the input of the five talented musicians who make up the band. They are Shacho, Tabu Zombie, Josei on piano, Akita Goldman on bass and Midori on drums and though best when heard live they are also fine on record. New album Lost in Tokyo is another fiery and vivacious jazz record that fuses hard styles, bop, modal and future jazz into electric tunes. The opener sets the scene and comes packed with found sounds - water dropping, train doors, factory floors - while from there everything from hard Japanese raps to smoother vocals colour the grooves.
