It's taken a while, but Paul "Scuba" Rose has finally delivered an album under the alternative SCB alias. According to its creator, the album's title, Caibu, refers to "an imagined surgical procedure", while the set follows a fictional narrative in which "a hypothetical timeline is corrupted by a climate-related disaster". While not all will buy into the slightly hazy concept, the album's distinctive ebb and flow - think twisted, acid-fired jack tracks followed by IDM-inspired broken techno, pulverizing Surgeon-esque workouts, blissfully melodious club tracks, spacey electro and gentle ambient goodness - definitely takes listeners on a journey. More importantly, Caibu arguably includes some of Rose's most potent and imaginative work to date.
