Review

Richard H Kirk has always been an obsessive archivist. Having previously put together numerous expansive Cabaret Voltaire box sets, he's recently started focusing on his solo material. Mute has already put out an eight-disc set of work under his given name; now they've switched attention to the Sandoz project he inaugurated in 1992 in order to produce heady fusions of IDM, techno, Jamaican dub, and the tribal rhythms of Africa. #9294 includes three re-mastered albums - the double-disc debut, Digital Lifeforms, plus the hard-to-find Intensely Radioactive and Dark Continent sets - and a fresh disc of unheard archive material. It's all evocative and musically impressive, flitting between ambient dub, intense dancefloor moments, and freshly baked electronica.
