Having first appeared on Fools Gold last year, Run The Jewels' acclaimed, self-titled debut album gets a swift re-release on Big Dada. With El-P at the controls and Killermike on the mic (sorry), Run The Jewels was never going to be anything less than essential. Its' blend of fuzzy electronics, booming hip-hop beats, ghetto swagger and robust rhymes seems to inhabit a space all of its own, somewhere between the high production values of commercial hip-hop, the next-level electronic experimentation of LA's MPC beatmakers, and the forceful intensity of independent rap. There are plenty of confirmed dancefloor moments, but some curious curveballs, too. In other words, it's one of the best hip-hop albums of recent times. Don't sleep.
