We would not be heading into hyperboles if we said that Rrose is arguably one of the most enigmatic figures to emerge from the techno realm over the last five years. Starting out on the now sadly defunct Sandwell District, the shadowy producer has simply kept on giving since his debut, and we are certainly his - or her - fanboys. "Arc Unknown" opens this new three-tracker for the Infrastructure imprint, and it does so with the same suave style that led us to fall in love with the artist's minimal yet rich patterns of four-to-the-floor. The B-side is livelier, less entangled in a web of cavernous sonics, and "Specimen 2" bounces all over the place thanks to subtle beasts and quirky harmonics, leaving "Specimen 3" to evolve that same sound further into oblivion - the same jingles now lost in an intricate pattern of molecular sounds. Wonderful and much recommended.
