Last year TRAMP Records reissued the sole album by the 1994 version of Roy Porter's Sound Machine outfit, an earlier version of which had been active for five years in the 1970s. "Slaughterhouse" is taken from that album, "Generation", and here appears on a seven-inch single for the very first time. In its' A-side vocal mix form, the track is a punchy, horn-heavy chunk of funk that sounds a little like a vintage James Brown record (albeit with a vastly different male lead vocal). The flipside instrumental take is a totally different beast, with waves of horns and elastic slap bass riding the original's killer, JBs-like groove.
