In recent interviews Jamal Moss has revealed his commission process for the Mathematics label revolves around releasing music "so dope" he's mad as hell he's can't make that music himself. From the sounds that burst forth from "Sans Quimico", the stunning opening track to Roche's debut release on Mathematics, you can imagine that track in particular was fresh in Moss' mind when discussing the matter. Little information is available on Roche, other than he's part of a music scene in San Francisco that's proved excellent breeding ground of late, and besides it's hard to focus on this lack of info when the music is just so consuming. The lead track explodes with incandescent brilliance from the somewhat restrained and dusty spiralling early moments into a production in full flight that's far too detailed to concentrate on any one element, so satisfyingly intoxicating as a whole it is. A sense of glowering light runs through the subsequent two tracks too, flickering brilliantly amid the shifting rhythmic pulse of "LFTL Eternal" and residing in a more subtle, smudged position on the sumptuous glide of the title track.
