Talk about low slung grooves. Lithics third and arguably finest album isn't exactly short of tracks capable of bending knees and sending asses floor-ward in a bid to latch onto the bumbling baritones, with the early combination of lackadaisical funk ('Hands') and runaway motor ('Beat Fall') more than enough evidence for anyone. As are 'An Island' and 'Victim's Jacket' a little further into the record. While these tracks are destined to garner the most attention, it's when the Portland, Oregon band hit their most complex and beguiling that things really stand out. Such as the staccato beats and lunging riffs of opener 'Non', the scuzzy, distorted and cacophonous breakdown that is 'Tower of Age', or 'Half Dormancy' and its hypnotic, closed loops of shrill chords and brushed snares. Not your average offering from a band that left average behind the moment they met.
