We're not quite sure what "Purplewave" is, though by the sounds of this EP from electro and techno veteran Rico Casazza it's something we like. The title track, which kicks of the EP in style, is a curious but inspired blend of electro rhythms played on live drums, 1980s alt-rock guitar solos, druggy Italo-disco/new wave style arpeggio bass and alien-sounding electronic melodies. On side B it gets the remix treatment, with Silicon Scally (AKA British electro stalwart Carl Finlow) re-inventing it as a shimmering slice of deep space electro and No Moon offering up a trippy, chugging and dreamy version for late nights and early mornings. Elsewhere on the EP, Casazza delves in to dark electro waters on "Rainmaker" and adds acid to his guitar-flecked template on "Enada Mello".
