The Freedom School DJ Series Vol 1 12" is a typical Wilhite release, veering from the deep and the dusty to the deranged and reaffirms Rick as one of Detroit's most treasured exponents of Motor City gritty sonics. A Side hugger "Tribute & Respect" eases you in, laying some African vocals over a lovely rasping groove that offers hip aligning forward momentum in equal doses to the soulful deepness of the saturated bass line. From here Wilhite turns pretty fckn gnarly on the alien voodoo thrust of "Techno Dust" whilst "Kinky" is a wondrous lo-fi gurgler. FXHE bossman Omar S gets a mastering credit too!
