After a relatively quiet first six months of 2013, Bill Kouligas' PAN label have really been making up for lost time with a veritable deluge of wilfully experimental material, with a label debut from California based Rene Hell the latest addition and a good chunk more still planned before the end of the year. Otherwise known as Jeff Witscher, Rene Hell has been an active participant in the US electronic underground - check his quite daunting array of cassette releases for proof - and recent years have seen drop notable LPs for Type and appear on NNA Tapes split release with OPN. The travel inspired Vanilla Call Option is a logical addition to PAN, occupying a similar challenging sonic narrative to the label's recent Jar Moff and NHK'Koyxen releases. Utilsing a mimimalist digital palette collated whilst Witscher was on the road performing, the twelve tracks are self described "vertical narratives" that at times hint at the composer's obsession with speed chess.
