La Casa Tropical's latest release draws on the extensive back catalogue of P.V.P (short for Patience, Violence and Pinky), a South African trio active during the 1990s. Although well known in their home country during the original Kwaito era, they remain unheralded internationally. The two tracks showcased here first appeared on their fourth album, "Malende". First up is title track "Thsilidzi", an undeniably gorgeous Kwaito classic built around mid-tempo house drums, Mood 2 Swing style organ melodies, sun-bright synth riffs and the band's evocative group vocals. Flipside "Si Ya Jola" is almost equally as impressive, making use of a similar sound palette and an even stronger vocal. Like the very best Kwaito records, both tracks are joyous from start to finish.
