While Christian rock and doom metal aren't two genres you'd typically assign to one another, Paramaecium did the unthinkable with their 1991 debut, 'Exhumed of the Earth.'

Taking death/doom-metal influenced by the likes of My Dying Bride, and infusing it with classical arrangements, soprano vocals, string and wind instrumentation and a fully devoted narrative recalling the events of Christ's crucifixion, teachings and resurrection, many were utterly perplexed by this marrying of supposedly warring factions.

Grandiose epics like the 17-minute opener, 'The Unnatural Conception' or the looming 'Untombed' feel ahead of their time with the utter disregard for genre they display, while this debut would immortalise the (later primary solo) project of frontman Andrew Tompkins as an initially vast group of members unified over a singularly devout scope and vision.
