It's always a pleasure to check back in with the Pacific Wizards Foundation; this Los Angeles collective have found their own niche in the current market, with their releases not really focusing on one particular sonic direction, instead offering a freeform vibe that result in some interesting music. This Pacific Horizons 12" Witches & A Prayer offers a perfect example; lead track "Witches Of Castaneda" takes the Balearic template of rich hazy melodics and applies it to the sparse stepping rhythmics, introducing plenty of echo and delay into the mix with suitably hypnotic results. Complementing this, "A Prayer For Santa Ana" lays thick swathes of piano and soothing guitar over a thick throbbing house groove. Superbly hazy cover art too.
