Cross-cultural fusionists Owiny Sigoma Band have been one of Brownswood's most exciting outfits since delivering their eponymous debut album back in 2011. Here, the British/Kenyan outfit return with a third full-length, once again blending Western songwriting and production techniques with the indigenous style of luo music (the album's title refers to the genre's spiritual home, Nyanza Province in Western Kenya). As with previous sets, it bristles with great ideas, effortlessly fusing traditional percussion and vocals with bubbling drum machine rhythms, melodious electronics and left-of-centre British synth-pop influences. The result is an album as enjoyably joyous as it is unique and hard-to-pigeonhole.
