Bongo Joe is something of a silent killer among labels, the quiet powerhouse that always delivers the goods, no matter what the genre or style that it sets its sights on. This new compilation of Afro-Colombian roots from Nilamaye is, perhaps, the best thing the imprint has uncovered in a long time; full of life, creativity, and musical freedom, this selection of tunes spans countless influences and lands on a fresh, compelling territory that we seldom here these days. Through cumbia, juga, bundle, this band's rhythmic style is utterly singular and imperceptible, a one-off that deserves to be in the running for best world music release of the year. The best part is that you have to hear it yourself to make sense of its perfection. Highly recommended.
