While Nick Hoppner's 2015 debut album, Folk, was rather impressive, it would be fair to say that this follow-up is even better. While that set was largely rooted in hazy and evocative deep house and melodic techno, Work sees the Panoramabar resident drawing from a far deeper pool of influences. So, he begins with a superb chunk of melodious IDM ("All By Themselves (My Belle)") and the throbbing, warehouse-friendly jauntiness of "Clean Living" before dropping the album's first tech-tinged house roller ("In My Mind"). The pattern continues throughout, as he variously turns his hand to future garage (the jazzy "Hole Head"), watery dub techno ("The Dark Segment"), sumptuous late '80s dream house ("Fly Your Colours") and superb electronic/acoustic fusion (clarinet-sporting closer, "Three is a Charm").
