REPRESS! Myles Serge could only be described as a maverick, a mysterious producer who happens to make some of the best house and techno around. This latest five-piece on the excellent Thema label is Serge through and through, and from "Clockworks" to "Tu", we're dropped in a warm and meditative zone that doesn't quite seem to make its mind up about which category it belongs to between house and techno. "Forgotten Folklore" reminds us of Terrence Dixon's output under his Population One alias - loose beats and melodies suspended in mid-air - and "Mist" is a minimal-tribal cut for added suspense. "The Village" calls to the dance floor thanks to its subtle waves of acid, and is perhaps the stand-out moment in this perfectly tidy EP. Choice gear.
