Lawrence English's Room40 imprint continues delivering sound antipodes from the south, since the turn of the century as his label's slogan so succinctly states. This time the Brisbane based label sends out another transmission by legendary British musician Mike Cooper with Fratello Mare, named after a rather unknown Italian film from 1975. Utilising a National Resophonic guitar from the 1930's that he has treated with various effects, the album takes on a hazy tropical folk vibe that morphs into warped, textured atmospherics over dreamy kalimbas, proving the ideal soundtrack to lazy summer Sundays. A great album by an experienced musician of over almost five decades and entering another fascinating phase of his career.
