The Beat Indicator contains an ultra bright LED that can be programmed to flash on the beat in response to MIDI Clock messages. An invaluable tool for enabling drummers or live musicians to keep time with MIDI sequences during breaks or intros. The flash can be advanced or delayed by up to 128 ms from the actual beat, and the brightness of the flash is programmable. The Beat Indicator can also be programmed to flash in response to a Note or Control Change message.
The Beat Indicator is programmed by sending it MIDI System Exclusive messages (see FAQs - Programming). For a complete description of the programming options, see the Beat Indicator Operating Instructions (.pdf file). Once programmed, settings are retained even after power is removed. The Beat Indicator can be reprogrammed with new settings as often as needed.
The Beat Indicator is MIDI-powered, and requires no batteries or power supply to operate with most MIDI products (see FAQs - Power and FAQs - LED for more information). It is recommended that no more than one Beat Indicator be powered from a single MIDI Out or Thru, if other MIDI Solutions products are required in series with the Beat Indicator a MIDI Solutions Power Adapter is recommended.
