Hushed & Grim vinyl

Hardcore Mastodon fans rejoice - this is definitely the band you're still looking for. Hushed & Grim might be something of a sidestep rather than first foot forward move for the Atlanta metal outfit, but that's really besides the point. After years of reinventing themselves with pretty much every record, on this album the band feel as though they have finally found the comfortable boots they were after all those years. Probably a little worn in just the right places, certainly heavy but reassuringly so.

You only need to listen to the riffs to understand why this is a culmination of all there has been and most likely all there will be next. Shredding barely comes close to an apt description. In the words of a Wayne Campbell, they wail, and it's nigh on impossible to not get swept up in the momentum. Far from their most progressive, but perhaps their most self-assured to date.
