23-year-old Mason Maynard has already achieved more in dance music than many grizzled veterans, including releases on Defected and Cajmere's Relief Records. Here he debuts on Hot Creations with two tracks tweaked to suit big rooms and even better festival soundsystems. A-side "McLovin'" is formidably bass-heavy, with the young Mancunian making great use of a booming, sub-heavy bassline, shuffling drums, grin-inducing vocal samples from a blue-eyed soul classic and glitchy percussion sounds. Throw in some great drops and breakdowns and you've got yourself a tried-and-tested club bomb. Flipside "Remedy" is even wilder, wonkier and tougher, with guest vocalist Ursula Rucker delivering a trademark part-sung, part-spoken vocal over twisted analogue electronics and another booming low-end groove.
