Live electro specialists London Modular Alliance has spent the last five years delivering killer cuts on a variety of well-regarded and high-profile underground labels (Applied Rhythmic Technology, Brokntoys and Hypercolour included), so it was probably only a matter of time before they showed up on Central Processing Unit. Cracked Dice, their first four-track assault for the Steel City imprint, is a typically distorted, off-kilter and intergalactic affair. They brilliantly set the tone via the alien electro/broken beat fusion of 'Cracked Dice', before adding broken computer bleeps, mangled modular noises and serious sub-bass to a crunchy breakbeat hardcore groove (EP highlight 'Head of the Keeper'). Flipside opener 'Chemical Peel' is an ultra-deep and dreamy electro-breaks bubbler, while 'Lemon Mishap' is Drexciya-style electro at its very best.
