This third album from Swedish four-piece Little Dragon finds them in fine fettle. As with previous excursions, Ritual Union refuses to settle on one particular genre or groove, exploring different musical avenues under a dreamy, lo-fi signature sound that rewards repeat listens. Amidst the eleven tracks present there are plenty of forays into inventive, off-kilter electro pop ("Little Man", "Please Turn", the triumphant "Shuffle A Dream"), alongside curious trips into dubstep territory ("Precious") and eccentric downtempo fare (see the jazz-flecked soundscape "When I Go Out"). It's never challenging, but it couldn't exactly be called easy listening either. As usual, Little Dragon has found the perfect balance between impeccable pop and worthy experimentation.
