There's usually a fair amount of funk at the heart of Lee Burton's on-point tech-house productions. That's certainly the case here; both A-side "Pattern A 36" and title track "And Nothing But The Tooth" are built around bumpin' drumbeats and rubbery, thickset basslines. Of the two, it's the gently spacey and melodious B-side roller, whose bassline attractively rises and falls while mutilated female vocal samples drift across the sound space, that probably hits home hardest. Even so, there's something undeniably attractive about the fizzing electrofunk synth line that frequently makes an appearance on "Pattern A 36".
