Garage Classics Vol 8 CD

The bootleg Garage Classics series has, for as long as any of us can remember, provided Larry Levan fanciers with an easy route into finding the tunes that the great man used to hammer at the Paradise Garage. While some early volumes tended to rely on the obvious, later installments have dug a little deeper for inspiration. That's the case here, as we get the chugging, edit heavy '80s soul goodness of Loose Ends' brilliant "Slow Down", the rubbery boogie brilliance of Mahogany's "Ride on the Rhythm" and the sweaty hustle of the Fatback Band's "Street Dance". More impressively, there's also a rare outing on CD for A Number of Names bizarre but brilliant "Shari Vari".
