Fittingly, the first release on Bristol-based DJ and crate digger Sam Hall's new Few & Far Between Recordings imprints comes from one of his home city's lesser-known production combos: early '90s partnership Language, AKA Alex Swift and Mark Lewis. In The Lab was initially released in 1992 and remains the duo's standout release: a peerless collection of addictively loved-up and dreamy deep house cuts that sound like they were made in Rimini or New Jersey, rather than the West Country. We're particularly enjoying the glassy-eyed wonder that is "Tranquility Bass" and breakbeat-driven shuffler "Breakdown Wo!", though all four tracks - freshly re-mastered for this reissue from the original DATs - are simply superb. Recommended.
