Now an annual fixture, Hostal La Torre's in-house compilations do a good job in gathering up Balearic-minded sonic treats from a variety of styles and sub-genres. This year's edition - the fifth in total - is particularly special, delivering a mix of dewy-eyed ambient bliss (u-Ziq's '4am'), breakbeat-driven downtempo dancefloor warmth (Burns & Tubbs' 'Where Were You In '92'), Brazilian acoustic sweetness (Arthur Verocai's 'Cabaclo'), deeply dubbed-out electronica ('Present Voice' by Software), new age house-not-house synth-scapes (Point Zero's 'Coastal'), Afro-soul (Nina Simone's under-appreciated 'Come Ye'), vintage deep house (NY Housin' Authority's exceptional 'Apt 3B'), string-laden shufflers (Mark Barrott's 'When Devils Become Gods'), dreamy Americana (Mazzy Star), piano-heavy dreaminess (Aqua Bassino) and Balearic classics (Talk Talk).
