Justin McNulty aka Kutmah has been truly making waves when it comes to dark, gritty and urbanised beats. His sound is a perfect cross between half-step and the kind of experimentalism that's come out of labels such as Opal Tapes or The Trilogy Tapes. This time, Hit + Run have decided to reissue Kutmah's Black Waves Tapes Volume 1, originally out on dusty cassette format back in February. This time, you get a lovely, marbled 10" cut of some of the wackiest and most daring sounds of the year. It might not have made it into that many "best of the year" charts but it's certainly a late entry for us. There's a little of everything for everyone in here; drone, hip-hop, ambient, techno, pitched down cold wave cuts, you name it...Kutmah's got it down.
