While Carl Craig was in Buenos Aries last year, he ended up in the studio with Argentine outfit Klauss, a combo renowned for their live electronic performances. Here, we finally get a chance to hear the results, which pit the experienced Detroiter's love of loopy, dancefloor-focused hypnotism against the band's modular electronics, moody industrial and new wave influences. A-side "Momentum" sets the tone, with the track subtly building over 10 mesmerizing minutes via foreboding treated guitars, psychedelic acid lines and paranoia-inducing modular electronics. Flip for the similarly epic "Repeat After Me", an arguably more widescreen affair that makes even more of Klauss' otherworldly guitar motifs and crackling, out-of-this-world synthesizer motifs. What it lacks in dancefloor grunt, it more than makes up for in atmosphere.
