Review

With the release of their fourth (yes, fourth) record this year, prolific Aussies King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard created something of an experiment by releasing the masters for free, encouraging fans to start their own DIY labels and get pressings of Polygondwanaland made. In amongst the plucky start-ups, cassettes and even an 8-track cartridge, established label Vinyl-On-Demand have thankfully picked it up for a wide release. Right from the get-go, the group's twelfth full-length rips into heavily progressive psychedelia with 10-minute epic 'Crumbling Castle', and the pace doesn't drop throughout. It's their most "prog" work yet, as complex time signatures and polyrhythms, rock-opera intensity and dexterous melodic scale work erupt on this incendiary, intense and musically accomplished record.
